Ma non dovremmo essere un tantino preoccupati.....?

C'è stata molta attenzione sui media  (*) un paio di settimane fa quando il ghiaccio marino di quest'anno ha spazzato via ogni record: era sceso di almeno il 50% rispetto ai valori della media 1979-2000. C'è stata poca attenzione, tuttavia, per un valore forse ancora più significativo, diffuso pochi giorni fa: i gestori del modello PIOMAS del volume del ghiaccio marino al Polar Research Center hanno mostrato come il minimo del volume del ghiaccio nel 2012 era al 50% non di decenni fa, ma dal 2007! 

E' così: il volume del ghiaccio marino artico questo settembre è stato probabilmente circa la metà di quello che era solo nel 2007. Questi numeri dovrebbero preoccupare ogni essere umano ragionevole.

There was much media attention a couple of weeks ago when this year's sea ice extent minimum broke all records: it was down almost 50 percent from the 1979-2000 average. Little attention, though, accompanied a possibly even more significant figure, released a few days ago: those who run the PIOMAS sea ice volume model at the Polar Research Centershowed the 2012 sea ice volume minimum was down almost 50 percent not from decades ago -- but from 2007! That's right: the volume of arctic sea ice this September minimum was probably about half of what it was, just back in 2007. This figure should deeply trouble any reasonable human being,
